What is a ketogenic diet?
It is a diet that focuses on the metabolism (ketosis). The metabolism uses ketones and body fat for energy.
It is an alternative way according to the Dietdoctor.
The Diet Doctor explains it as such:
“In ketosis, your body produces ketones at an accelerated rate. Ketones, or ketone bodies, are made by your liver from fat that you eat and your own body fat. The three ketone bodies are beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), acetoacetate, and acetone (although acetone is technically a breakdown product of acetoacetate).”
It is high fat and low carb diet, hence it is not good for runners as we need our carbs to function properly. As a woman its also not great for us. We can’t have milk and bananas or beets (foods which are great for runners).
It lowers blood sugar levels and then it can become more efficient at burning body fat.
It helps to lose body fat and build more muscle. You cannot have highly processed foods.
Its really meaty and they use coconut oil and olive oil. You cannot have potatoes in the diet.
So in reality don’t try ketosis unless you really want to lose weight and there is no other option for you.
